The NHS across Kent and Medway has been working towards greater integration to provide better, more joined-up care for patients.  Broadly the intention is for Kent and Medway to move towards a more formally joined-up care system with:

·         about 42 primary care networks from 1 July 2019. These are networks of GP practices which will have their own funding so they can employ people and provide better joined up local services for everyone in their area

·         four integrated care partnerships from April 2020, consisting of hospital, community, mental health, and commissioning organisations and primary care networks. These will be based on how patients currently use hospital services: one each for east Kent; Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley; Medway and Swale; and west Kent. While each organisation will hold a budget, they will agree together how funding is spent locally. They will also free up staff to work in teams based on skills and patient needs, regardless of which NHS organisation employs them

·         and there will be one strategic commissioner for the NHS led by local doctors, which may be formed by the eight existing clinical commissioning groups (who plan and pay for healthcare currently) merging or working as one.

There is still more work to be done agreeing future structures and developing the fine detail of the proposed new arrangements.  The NHS in Kent and Medway wants to know what you think and welcomes any thoughts you may have about this work over the coming weeks and months.  You can read more information and provide feedback via an on-line survey at https://kentandmedway.nhs.uk/workstreams/systemtransformation/.  You can also comment by writing to Freepost KENT & MEDWAY NHS, New Hythe Lane, Aylesford, Kent ME20 6WT or emailing [email protected]
