Sainsbury’s Bus Service

Part of the planning permission for Sainsbury’s new store on Station Road in Staplehurst there is an obligation (in the Section 106 Agreement) to provide a bus service to and from the store.

Sainsbury’s has been in discussion with local bus operators over the past few months, to consider the format and potential routes for this new service.

As you’ll appreciate, Covid-19 has had a significant impact on the number of people using bus services at this time. Given that Sainsbury’s funding of this service will be time limited (5 years), they would like it to operate when local people are most likely to benefit and ensure the safety of customers.

As such, Sainsbury’s is currently intending to launch the bus service in the second half of 2021 when it is hoped that usage of public transport will begin to return to more normal levels.

The bus routes and launch date will be published nearer the time.
