A message from SGN with regards to works on the Marden Road:

I’m writing to make you aware of a forthcoming upgrade to our gas network in Marden Road, Staplehurst. Our project involves the essential replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure we continue to provide a safe and reliable gas supply to the local area.

In consultation with Kent County Council, we’ll be starting our project on Monday 18 January and expect to last approximately 7 weeks. Our contractor, WCB Utilities will undertake this work on our behalf in three phases.

Our engineers will begin working in Marden Road to the left of the junction with Clapper Lane and Pagehurst Road. To ensure everyone’s safety we’ll need to close Marden Road around our work area at this junction for approximately two week.

We’ll then progress onto the four-way junction with Marden Road, Clapper Lane and Pagehurst Road. For everyone’s continued safety we will need to close all joining roads at this junction for approximately four weeks.

For our final phase we’ll be working in Marden Road at the junction with Lindridge Lane. Marden Road will remain closed around our work area at this junction, for approximately one- two weeks.

Signed diversions will be in place for motorists for the duration of the project.

We’re working closely with the UK Government and public health bodies to make sure we work in line with expert advice during the pandemic. We have extra safety precautions in place to protect our colleagues and our communities from catching or spreading the virus as we carry out our safety-critical project. There’s more information about our coronavirus response on our website: sgn.co.uk/coronavirus

Our engineers are be happy to answer questions at any time during our project. Please remember to keep a safe distance when speaking to our team or passing our site.

We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However, the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, residents and businesses will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.

We’d like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their patience and understanding while we carry out this essential work.

If you have any enquiries in the meantime about either of our projects, please contact our Customer Service team on 0800 912 1700.

Kind regards

Paige Roberts
