The role of a Parish Councillor is to represent the views of the residents and help make informed decisions to improve the quality of life for residents in Staplehurst.

Staplehurst has 15 Councillors and the next Parish Election is 2th May 2024. This is an ideal opportunity for you to get involved and have a real say in what happens now and how your Parish evolves in the next few years.

  • Do you feel passionate about your Parish – well here is the chance do something positive
  • Do you feel strongly about a subject and want to make a difference - well here is the chance do something positive

The Council meets once every 3 weeks, on a Monday evening.

We have a separate Planning Committee that also meets every 3 weeks and considers all planning matters, applications etc and submits comments to Maidstone Borough Council, the local planning authority that makes planning decisions.

We also support a number of community working groups – such as Greener Staplehurst Group or Road Safety Group which focus on issues that matter to the residents.

As a Councillor you have an independent vote, so you can consider the issues, make an informed decision and vote on issues that you feel matter to the residents of Staplehurst.

You are eligible to stand as a candidate on the day of nomination and polling if you are:

  • Over 18 years old
  • British Citizen, eligible Commonwealth citizen, or a citizen of any member state of the European Union
  • Lived or worked in Staplehurst or within 3 miles for the past 12 months
