The Parish Councillors amalgamated the Annual Volunteer Awards Evening with the Annual Parish Meeting to make the evening a more informal social event. Thanks to Balfour winery and Homeleighs for sponsoring this event.

Local groups were invited, and some had stalls with information about their activities. The event was well attended. Thank you. We hope that everyone had a pleasant evening.

The merit award was awarded to Shirley Wigzell as part of the Greener Staplehurst Group. Shirley can often be seen quietly taking care of the village planters at the Parade. For many years, she has made sure the planters are weeded and freshly planted to keep them looking well-maintained for us all.

Thank you, Shirley.

The Junior Merit Award was presented to Elliot Cardnell who is a Beaver and kind and caring. He took part in the bag pack at Sainsburys and not only did 3 hours instead of the 30 minutes agreed but also helped the Squirrels take part as well as reassuring people with no spare change that , "it was ok and all part of the service."

Thank you, Elliott.

Both are examples of people in our community who go above and beyond and whom we all admire in Staplehurst.

We are so lucky that Staplehurst has so many kind, helpful volunteers.

A big heartfelt thank you to you all.
